Ischia, the largest island in the Gulf of Naples, is a destination that attracts thousands of tourists every year for its natural hot springs, golden beaches and postcard landscapes. If you are planning a trip to Ischia, it is essential to know the best ways to reach the island, which can vary depending on your preferences and the means of transportation you choose.
If you wish to reach the island by plane, Naples Capodichino International Airport is your closest destination. Once you land, you have several options for continuing to Ischia. The most convenient choice is to take a cab directly from the airport to Molo Beverello. The cab ride takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. If you prefer a cheaper option, however, you can take the Alibus, the shuttle service that connects the airport with the center of Naples. The Alibus ride takes about 35 minutes and is a great option for light travelers.
If you arrive by car, the highway will take you directly to Naples, from where you can take the ferry to Ischia. If you prefer to leave from the port of Pozzuoli, immediately after the Naples tollbooth you must follow the signs for the Naples ring road. Once on the ring road, take the Via Campana exit and follow the signs for the Port of Pozzuoli. Alternatively, if you prefer to embark from Molo Beverello in Naples, once past the toll, follow signs for Via Marina.
Getting to Ischia by train is easy and convenient. Naples Central Station, located in Piazza Garibaldi, is the city’s main railway hub and offers direct connections to the port. Once you arrive at the station, you can choose to take a taxi, which will take you to Molo Beverello in about 15 minutes. However, if you prefer to save money, you will find access to the subway inside the station. Take line 1 and get off at Piazza Municipio, which is right in front of the port.
If you prefer a more relaxed and scenic journey, the ferry is an ideal option to reach Ischia. Ferries and hydrofoils depart from Molo Beverello in Naples to various locations on the island, including Ischia Porto, Casamicciola and Forio. If you embark from the port of Pozzuoli, you will find direct connections to both Ischia Porto and Casamicciola. There are also ferry connections to Ischia from other places along the Campania coast, such as Sorrento, Amalfi, Capri, Positano, Procida and Salerno.
