The best coves and beaches in the Tremiti Islands archipelago

Just imagine a little piece of paradise in the heart of the Adriatic Sea, where time seems to stand still and nature reigns supreme. The Tremiti Islands, off the coast of Gargano, offer a perfect retreat for those seeking tranquility, adventure and direct contact with nature. Discover the best coves and beaches in the archipelago to enjoy every corner of this paradise.

Cala delle Arene

Situated on the east coast of San Domino Island, Cala delle Arene is the archipelago’s main and largest beach. It is easily reached on foot from the port of San Domino, which is just a few minutes away: just follow the signs to the beach from the island’s main square. Cala delle Arene is ideal for families, with its fine golden sand and shallow, calm waters.

Cala Matano

Cala Matano, also known as Cala Duchessa, is located in the south-eastern part of the municipality of San Domino, nestling between high cliffs and lush vegetation. To reach Cala Matano, start from the port of San Domino and follow a marked path through the beautiful pine forest. The path is scenic and fairly easy, a 15-20 minute walk. Although the water is calm and crystal clear, access to the beach is not as easy as at Cala delle Arene.

Cala degli Inglesi

On the north coast of San Domino is Cala degli Inglesi, a small cove hidden among the rocks. To reach Cala degli Inglesi you have to follow a path through the Mediterranean scrub for about fifteen minutes, starting from the island’s harbour. Although there are sunbeds, umbrellas and platforms to facilitate access to the sea, this cove is more suitable for snorkelling and, more generally, for diving enthusiasts because of its simply breathtaking seabed.

Castle Beach

Located near the port of San Nicola, at the foot of the impressive Badiali Castle, this beach consists of pebbles and sand and enjoys a positioning that protects it from the winds. Because of this, its waters are always calm, perfect for families with children.

Marinella Beach

Very crowded in summer is Marinella Beach, on the north-western side of San Nicola. This beach is not easy to reach; it can only be reached by sea or by a not-so-easy overland route.

Cala Pietre di Fucile

Cala Pietre di Fucile is located on the uninhabited and wild island of Caprara. The only way to get to Cala Pietre di Fucile is by sea. It is necessary to rent a boat or participate in an organized excursion from the port of San Domino or San Nicola.
